What is the Day Out of Time?
July 25 is one day the 13 Moon Dreamspell Calendar, as conceived by Dr. José Arguelles in 1992, leaves beautifully unclaimed to celebrate a global day of Planetary Peace Through Culture. All over the world people mark it the same way: by showing up for each other and celebrating culture, art and community.
Synergy In Motion has been bringing conscious community together in London, Ontario for 20+ years and this is one of our favourite days of the year.
We’d love for you to come and celebrate!
A whole day of stepping outside of time as we know it, into a sacred portal of in-betwixt and between.
We hold a space where we can all dream, play, allow, create and connect to the earth and all her beings without judgment, comparing, striving or proving.
We will do this by making art, dancing, yoga, singing, sitting on the earth and talking with friends and people you haven’t met yet. Additionally there will be a guided walking meditation to start the day, Taoist yoga, qi gong, card readings, shared meals, an evening fire and at the centre of it all, a community sculpture we’ll build together…. and whatever else we dream up in the moment.
Building the Hedge Witch – Creating a Community Sculpture
Do you have some natural treasures at home…
sticks, grasses, feathers, shells, stones, cloths, leather, shiny things… earthy treasures that have caught your eye and that have never quite made it into a creation?
Natural objects that feel like they’re waiting to be part of something MORE?
Bring them!
Because together we’re going to build something none of us could have made alone.
Throughout the day, all of us will have the opportunity to build a communal 3-D Hedge Witch sculpture… built entirely from natural objects that everyone brings.
She’ll grow throughout the day, hand by hand, treasure by treasure and by evening she’ll stand as a guardian of everything we made together. We think she’s going to be extraordinary.
What is a Hedge Witch?
In medieval Europe, every village had a hedge, a wild tangle of growth marking the boundary between the tamed village and the untamed forest beyond. Living near that hedge was usually a woman who knew plants, remedies and things that couldn’t quite be explained.
Feared a little, yet deeply respected. They called her the Hedge Witch, from the Old English haegtessa, meaning hedge rider. Someone who straddles the boundary between what is known and what is wild.
Exactly what the Day Out of Time is all about, a portal between one year and the next, where old patterns are left behind and something fresh is dreamed into being.
Our Hedge Witch is an homage to her and to the part of each of us that lives at that edge. The part that gathers treasures from the earth and knows that the wild has something to say.
