Out Of The Trunk And Into The Driver’s Seat

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t even get an “honourable mention” in the Game Of Life awards. Receptivity.

Being receptive often gets a bad rap in our busy “to-do” culture. On the other hand, productivity, through working harder and faster is sought after, praised and rewarded.

But what if receptivity came first… BEFORE you took action? How would that change your interactions with people or with your projects?

Being receptive is intimate and requires you to tune in, and with that, many of us want to jump ship. Being receptive seems to ask too much of us and requires us to be vulnerable, which we’d rather not be. There’s an encultured saying that says ‘it is better to give than to receive.’ But is that true?

Let’s take a familiar thought that your mind might have had this week.

“I don’t know what to do”… or, “I have so much to do, I don’t know how I’m going to get it all done!”

Instead of jumping in “to do” something about it, ask yourself, “Can I acknowledge what’s happening, without judgement or expectations?” In other words, can you receive what’s actually going on, rather than what “you think should or shouldn’t be” be going on?

Perhaps after being a bit more receptive and perceiving what’s happening, you might realise that you already know your next step. Or you may find that you’ve done enough for today.

As a child you were born highly receptive… you had to be open in order to learn and grow. Over time, instead of allowing receptivity to inspire your creativity, have you let productivity drive your life? If so, you might feel at times like you’re a producing machine in order to keep the economy thriving and you, barely surviving!

To be sure, there’s nothing wrong with surviving or with productivity, but what if before producing, you tuned in to yourself and asked yourself if it’s time to do OR to be? How could you tap into the delicious energy of receptivity before jumping into the fast lane again?

At the end of the day, having more and doing more doesn’t fulfil that void inside. Creativity and receptivity are two sides of the same coin. You can’t have one without the other. Yet, our culture has put creativity/productivity in the driver’s seat while receptivity has been relegated to the passenger’s seat… or more likely is bound and gagged in the trunk of the car!

Let’s bring receptivity out of the trunk and into the driver’s seat!

Spend some time this week becoming aware of your ability to perceive what’s actually going on. Become aware of the resources around you and open up to receive the love of your friends/family and receive the beauty around you and within you. Allow life to nurture you instead of pushing yourself to produce before you’ve filled your own cup.

Let receptivity guide you towards taking your next step… and the next… and the next… and if your next step takes you on a path towards us, make sure you pick up a copy of our Activate Your Creative Genius Self-Study Course to help develop your sense of receptivity that dances with your creativity.

Once you start operating from receptivity first vs. productivity first, notice how stress fades and how much more relaxed in body and mind you’re able to be!

Live true to you,

Juna & Sabine
